About vidgif
vidgif is a free video to GIF converter. It is written in Rust with the egui interface library, and runs as a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, and as a web app in your browser.
Why it exists
Many online GIF makers require you to upload your video to a server, wait in a queue, and then download a watermarked or low-quality result. vidgif does the whole conversion on your own device instead. It is faster, works offline once loaded, and your videos stay yours.
What it does
- Open a video by dragging it in or choosing a file.
- Trim it to the exact start and end you want, with a live preview.
- Set the frame rate, width in pixels, quality and playback speed.
- Choose whether the GIF repeats forever.
- See an estimated file size, convert, and save the GIF.
Who makes it
vidgif is built and maintained by Boris Joskic. More about the author at brsjsk.com.
